I want to install a rich text editor here. I think one good option is HotEditor, but it requires a link back and the free version is encrypted.

Great idea intelliot. We can make the encryption and linkage go away with a simple PM.
Let's do this, I've been trying it out. Very Happy
Features I like:
virtual keyboard
world clock
calendar
change fonts
tons of smileys
clipart
add photo
highlight

I like the way that it enables you to see what text looks like bold etc without having to preview the page. The virtual keyboard is also fun for a few minutes Razz

It works! Now we just have to set some guidelines on what it means to add too much unnecessary styling

Should I try to apply it to the Quick Reply box, too, or would that just slow things down?

(Quick Reply shows on all topic pages, and it's supposed to be "Quick") Smile

I could add a link under the Quick Reply box, something like what you see on some other forums, that says "Go Advanced" and takes you to the Post Reply page (with the rich text editor).

"Preview post" does the same thing, right? That takes you to the Rich Text editor.
And yes, we need some guidelines, quick, before the place looks like a doodle pad.

Should be interesting to see how the next couple of days goes.

It is an interesting feature, though, that could enrich the GC experience. Thanks for adding it.
And I'd like to express at least my thanks to Geekerati, for his help in making it happen.

Yes, a big thanks to geekerati!

(I propose a maximum of 2 animated smilies per post)

There isn’t a limit on non animated smiles, but anyway this rich text editor doesn’t have any non animated ones that I'm aware of, the only other thing that is not animated but that could cause a nuisance is the WordArt!

Could you maybe leave the quick reply box the way it is? It's what I normally use, and it's really helpful.

  Nice job anyway!

Yes, I like the quick reply as it is, as well.
(My only problem with it is that it doesn't preserve my default of 'watch topic for replies', which has to be re-set.)

Is it possible if we could have a thread where we could test the features, and have a play around with it? It'd be nice to know what some of the things did, like the [php] wrapping etc... Question

Hee hee. That's the first thing I did. (It's just where you can't see it.)
Tell you what. Since it's a new feature, go ahead and test it out in the Graphics Design forum.
Go nuts, put "test, don't reply" in the subject line, and delete it when you're done.
Act now. This is a limited time offer.
