Hello ..... a question in this:

Anyone could tell me why Google has different domain for each home country ? Examples:

1) http://www.google.off.ai
2
) http://www.google.com.af
3
) http://www.google.com.ar
4
) http://www.google.co.bw
5
) http://www.google.co.uk
6
) http://www.google.lu

Why
some countries has "google.com.domain of the country" (like the number 2 and 3) while others has "google.co.domain of the country" (like 4 and 5) and others just has "google.domain of the country" (like 6) or others just so an odd like "google.off.ai" (like it is the 1 from Official Google Homepage of Anguilla).

I'm very curious !

Thanks in advance.

So Google can deliver Country specific results, they use the Country TLDs for those specific country searches. As for why a TLD looks the way it is, go ask the ICANN and the different organizations that chose that TLD for their country.

Hi Lupine,

Thank you for answer. I didn't know nothing about TLDs and the ICANN, now I know thanks to you. And now I can direct my question to the specific ansewer that I need.

What I need to know is why Google home page for the different countries has that great variability. For some countries it only add the TLD of the country like:google.lu . But in others, it add a SLD like: google.co.uk. And it others is completly different. So:

1) Why Google Inc do not has an uniform domain registry ?
2) Who decide the way of registry the domain ? The country register agency ? Or Google Inc ? Or Both ?

Google does not even register the domains for themselves nor do they have a say in what gets registered. They use a service called Mark Monitor which has a service for registering a name with all the TLDs including the country ones. ICANN is a big player and the specific country that TLD belongs to has a role in picking a TLD.

Here are some wikipedia articles:

.co.uk is one of the most popular domain endings in the world....why wouldn't Google have one?

Thank you for the links and opinion Lupine. I know about Mark Monitor, but I think that Google must say to Mark Monitor which are Google's preferences about domain registrations, because Google has an identity to protect, and the fact is that Google country home pages have a variated structure:

subdomain.SLD(variable).TLD(variable)

Why? Which is the strategy?

.com.au is a TLD in it's own, there is no .au. It's just the country code for Australia. The same goes for .co.uk, .co.uk is a TLD and there is no .uk TLD.

Ok now we understand more.

.com.au  and  co.uk are not TLD , in these cases COM and CO are SLD as it is said in this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second-level_domain

Another thing is that Asutralia and UK do not admit the use of the ccTLD alone for outsider companies and  obligate outsiders cooporations to use the SLD .com.au  or .co.uk.  Where can I found that information? I supose that it is a case of laws of the NIC in UK and Australia and other countries. I try to find that in UK but I didn't get anything related. If you are interested in this topic and you can halp me, please I appreciate it.

Andrew thanks for replying ... I think it is  not a problem to have and have ... it is a problem to have the one that better fits in the marketing strategy.

For the sake of registration like at Godaddy or some other registrar, they are instances of their own TLD.
