We have all seen people/children with piercing. To me a young child under 18 is not in the position to completely understand the consequence of being pierced in their face or wherever they want to have it done. Sadly everybody is judged by their cover and I do believe that a piercing in the face could give somebody problems getting a job. So, my question is: should there be a law saying that you have to be 18 before getting pierced?

I think it's disgusting, and would never put such a thing on my body, but if people like it, let them wear it. That's just like "should laws be enforced about clothes".. yeah, I think in the middle age (maybe before) such polls were running (on phpBB medieval exclusive edition 1.2.00  ) haha.. no, no laws against piercing.
/edit: and yeah, everybody has parents (or the most has, to be correct) who can stop their children getting pierced..

I think that there should be a law that says that someone must be 18 or over before they can get pierced or tattooed without their parent's permission. However, as we know, kids are inventive and resourceful, and can get a home-made piercing or tatto if they know who to go to.

Leave the kids alone...as long as it's not drugs or stealing let them find out the hard stuff on their own. Hell I had 6 tattoos before I was 20, and 2 before I turned 18. Tatts and peircings are a form of self expression. Peircings aren't permanent either. Most teens know to take them out when it comes time to be serious. Or atleast cover them up. I say, there shouldn't be laws...In fact, I believe it would be unconstitutional for the government to take away such a thing.
In retrospect, in the state of florida, you have to be 18 or with an adult to get your body art done. Kind of what you were looking for.

Piercings are less permanent. And really too easy to do 'unprofessionally'.
Probably better to have them done in a hygeinic environment, and look dumb for a while.
There'll probably be no permanent consequences other than some small scarring.
Tattoos, on the other hand, are a different matter. Sure, they can be removed by expensive and painful laser surgery, but children should need their parents' permission.
Who knows? Maybe some parents would okay something small, inconspicuous, and tasteful.
But I wouldn't leave it up to a kid if he thought he could best express himself with a tattoo on his forehead, or a swastika on the back of his hand.
(And yes, I've seen quite a few cases of judgement this bad, and worse.)

| I say not. Basically if they want to do it, the government is in no position to restrict them. I feel the same way with drugs and everything. As long as there is not a second party involved who would face some sort of physical damage, everything should be legal (few exceptions). |

I personaly dont like piercings but I view it as freedom of expression. So what I have to say is; "If you dont like it then dont look at it."

So, for the sake of argument; your 12-year-old daughter comes home with a big gold bull-ring through her nose, something the size of a knitting-needle
poked through her eyebrow, and a glass tube through an earlobe, making a hole the size of a silver dollar.
You'd be okay, and take her advice to just not look at it, if you didn't like it?

There should not be peircings if you are under 18. And even though some peircigs aren't permanent, they can leave scars, and in the case of a glass tube, if it is kept there long enough, the earlobe will most likely stay that size.
Tattos are a different story. A lot of kids a long time ago got tattos, and now all these old people are walking around with tattos, saying how much they regreted their choices. |
