There's Unununium, a no-kernel python based OS, with it's unique, new timer, so it won't expire around 2035 like UNIX and Windows will.

BSDs. It all began when the first copy of UNIX arrived to Berkeley, University of California. They developed BSD quite well, until version 4.1BSD, from where forked 386BSD. Then they continued until 4.4BSDLite, and no more. From this last v. and 386BSD forked the three more well-known BSDs:
- FreeBSD - the universal, most well-known branch/flavour
- NetBSD - the "platform" guy, it runs more than 50 platofrms, which is reflected by it's slogan aswell: "Of couse it runs NetBSD"
- OpenBSD - it had a single security hole in 8 years, say the developers, but even the customers say that it's amazingly secure. The openbsd project is in the background of OpenSSL and OpenSSH

SkyOS, developed by Robert Szereney (and a few other ppl) first was Open-Source, than he rewrote it from scratch, and made it property software, so you have to buy a license, or sign-up for the beta developer program to get a copy. It also has a well-designed gui: SkyGI. For more information: [url]skyos.org[/url] _________________ "Circles have no end!"

Please use your edit button, instead of triple-posting.
Also, your BBCode doesn't seem to be working. You don't have it 'turned off' for your posts, do you? _________________

I triple-posted intentionally. I wanted a post for every OS(-flavour), so wouldn't everything just mix up. _________________ "Circles have no end!"

For Mac OS X information:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X
The funny thing about Mac OS X is that most of the software editions have animal names...the current one is Tiger (MAC OS X version 10.4). And Macintosh has another version of Mac OS X in development (just like Microsoft with it's Windows Vista), Mac OS X Leapoard (version 10.5). |

I'll have to look into that one. Unununium is like, the best element ever discovered! I myself, use windows (Don't hurt me!), but there is of course, the ever-loving Mac OS 9 used on nearly every computer in my school. (By the way, if an angry mob is forming, get some extra pointy pitchforks, I use IE too. ) _________________ Someday, bunnies made of cheese will invade the world. | Mac OS 9? That technnology is way to old, however it is also used on every computer in my school too. The only reason I know anything about Mac OS X is because for people that are good at computers, they get to use the Mac OS X. |

I'm surprised none of you n00bs have mentioned Ubuntu yet . It's lightweight, totally free (they'll even ship it to you), debian based, Gnome or KDE, Great wiki... I could go on and on.

Has anyone tried Solaris from Sun Microsystems. I downloaded it to put on my old laptop as a test.
It's freely available at: www.sun.com/software/solaris/ _________________
