I can't believe this isn't already a topic. Am I just not looking hard enough? What do you think of the new(-ish) chat intergrated with the inbox? I love it! Way easier than starting up chat, and your friends sign in automatically most times, meaning you don't have to fill out a full email to get their attention before they leave their inbox. (I hate doing that.) What are your opinions? |

No, I guess you didn't look too hard. There have been quite a few threads on the subject (most from when the feature was first released).
But I don't think there's been one for general discussion of the feature in a while, so maybe it's as good a time as any.
Myself, I've had an ongoing problem for over a week, now, with it just telling me over and over that it "can't connect to Gmail".
I've tried flushing all cookies, uninstalling related Gmail extensions in Firefox, etc, with no effect.
I wonder if anyone has a similar problem, or suggestions?

| Hm...my only problem is I never have anyone to chat with. It is not as popular as MSN or AIM. |

Well, I did a search and it turned up a couple pages of completeley irrelevent subjects, so I figured there wasn't any big topic on it. As for the chat problem mondine had, my best guess is that a firewall or something is interfereing with it. Did you check that stuff?

No, I've ruled out firewall problems. And nothing I can think of has changed since it had been working, before.
It may have something to do with having multiple Gmail accounts.
I had a similar problem once before when I had a pending chat request on a different acount, and cleared up when I dealt with that and logged out.
I've since switched all other accounts to "Standard, without chat", but that didn't help.

Well, once you've cleared the temp folder, your other accounts shouldn't interefere...  Do you use Google Talk? It have problems with this too, or is it just the inbox?

I have used Google Talk, with Trillian, once in a blue moon. I may fire it up sometime to see if it's working.
Frankly, I don't have much use for IMs, and rarely use them. It just bugs me when things don't work. 
I might just switch the main accoount to "without chat", just so I don't have to look at the dopy thing eternally trying to connect every 30 seconds while I'm in the account.

I like and use the feature. I also have the Google Talk client, and they seem to behave together just fine. The best feature is chat logging - it's very aggravating that AIM continues to lose my chats.

I personally love Google Talk and think the integration in gmail is awesome, except almost everyone I know is on AIM, so I'm kind of stuck. Unless I talk to myself.

No, you don't need to have Gtalk installed.
You might still have to have your language preference set to En (US), and to have the correct
"view" selected: "Standard with Chat".

Language is already set to EN
What im saying there is no option like ‘standard with chat’ and here is the picture of it.sodo
u have any suggestions ?...browser is firefox, all possibleapplets or
so are on and functioning, anyway there still would be anoption to
select preferable type of view and no matter if itworks. as well
there is no option in contacts |

You've got to have the language set to English (US). I see you've currently got it set to English (UK).
