So what do you think? Is it more secure (for a small business network) to use Internet Explorer or FireFox as the default browser.
Be specific - what about one, makes it more secure than the other.

I think FIfefox is the best browser of all. Its fast, secure, and I never got hacked or got a virus through it. While on IE i got heaps. Firefox is the way to go. Tabbed browsing is more convienet. _________________

IE's reliance on activeX controls and plug-ins for adaquate performance, and its vulnerabilities to the exploits specifically designed for it,
are the major reason that it is the less-secure browser.
Yes, it can be patched, and the security permissions tweaked for different security 'zones', but I don't see the point in
nursing a crippled, buggy browser; when such a good alternative exists.
That being said, of course no browser is 100% secure, and software will never be a replacement for cautious common sense. _________________

As an IT Professional, I wanted to implement FF instead of IE for my company. BUT, FF doesn't support a lot of things we use on our MS Servers. Like Sharepoint, Outlook Webmail, etc. So it isn't practical. If it were, I would switch. _________________

Maybe you should try using Mozilla Suite (SeaMonkey Project).
Firefox/Thunderbird is more for personal use, while Mozilla Suite is designed for companies that require all-in-one solution.
Anyway, this is the best place to figure out what you want from Mozilla:

I will install it but I still don't think that MS has supported it in SharePoint or Outlook web client. Things like that keep it from being my solution. I will install it on my laptop and try it out in a beta. I will let you know how it worked. _________________

The major problem with IE is that Windows is the most popular OS ever, and that IE comes bundled with it. Its not that Microsoft haven't exactly made it a good browser, its just that people like hackers always seem to target it, as they know that a larger number of people might get targeted. And of course, Microsoft does give away patches for free download, but there isn't much of a point in it. Some people will probably have been targeted already, while hackers might find a way to get past the patch.
Let me give an example. If Firefow would be the browser used by most people in the online world now, sensible people would applaud IE and say that it was great. So if you want security, go for Firefox. _________________

That's where Open Source comes in play.
The more popular is Open Source program, the more volunteers there will be to fix and find different bugs and glitches.
Copyrighted software just don't get that kind of interest. |

Well, you can't say that Opera's got more features than Firefox, can you?
But it should be god on the security front. _________________
