Australia's recent 2-1 series win over India has left Ricky
Ponting's team firmly entrenched at the top of the world's Test
cricket standings.
Australia now holds a 19-point lead over second placed England
while Pakistan's 1-1 home series result against Sri Lanka left it
in third position.
India and Pakistan remain four points behind England on 105
points after failing to win their recent home series.
However, India will have an opportunity to climb the table in
the forthcoming two-Test series against South Africa. A 2-0 win
would put India level with England on 109 points.
Australia also heads the one-day standings and is followed by
Sri Lanka.
India can close the gap between it and Pakistan in the ICC
One-Day International Championship table to three points if it wins
the Jubilee Match between the sides in Kolkata on Saturday.
After losing its most recent encounter against Pakistan during
the ICC Champions' Trophy 2004, India goes into the match in
seventh place with 102 points.
A win would boost its rating to 103 points while Pakistan's
rating will drop from 108 to 106 points.
Pakistan is currently in fourth place and must win the one-off
match to hold on to that position. Defeat will see it drop below
the West Indies and England to sixth.
New Zealand's 3-0 series whitewash over Bangladesh cemented its
hold on third position, moving it to within two points of Sri Lanka
with 117 points.
If New Zealand can win two of its three ODI matches against
Australia next month it will climb to second place.
