Hi everyone,
I discovered Page Creator a few hours ago and I really liked it very much! One of the things I liked right away is that my full name is part of the address. What a pleasant surprise! But there's something else I am concerned about... What if someone takes my user name that appears in my URL address adds @gmail and starts sending me spam for example? There are Gmail's powerful spam filters and I am not going to reply to spam of course but what other measures could I take to protect my Gmail? What do you think? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Yes, that is a drawback that's been pointed out, before.
I don't believe there's much you can do, retroactively. At the moment, I see no better solution
than to have a secondary Google account to sign up for Page Creator, to protect your main account.
This is a real issue, that they need to address. _________________

Thank you very much for replying to my message, although this issue has been pointed out before in this forum. It would be nice to have a secondary Google account -I could send an invitation to myself at another e-mail account I have- but would Google approve it? Gmail has already given me generously a free e-mail account that's 2722 MB and counting... (think that my Hotmail box was only 2MB as far as I can remember!)... To apply for a second account would be too much to ask perhaps... I don't know... if it is OK with Google... it would be lovely to have one more account to use in order to protect my main account.

P.S.: On a second thought having a full name in the URL it might be useful for someone like me who would like to write about and promote his work as well. It's advertising for free and that's one more good thing for us. Google gives us the tools (Page Creator, Picasa, Google SketchUp, Blogger, Gmail, Writely etc.) to be productive and publish our work for free. Thanks again.

Just googled about multiple Gmail accounts and it seems that there are people who do have them, there's even a Firefox extension (Gmail manager at https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1320/) to manage these accounts. What do you know about it? What do you think? Please let me know. It would be nice to have one more account.

There are a number of people that have multiple accounts. The Terms of Service do not explicitly forbid this.
I have several, myself, each for specific reasons- home use, forums, storage, etc.
On the other hand, I've had a page created with my main address since shortly after the service became available,
and that account doesn't receive any more spam than one that has never been used in public. _________________

I'm not sure if it affects you that much. Gmail's spam filter is incredibly effective. I get about 30 - 50 spam emails per day, and only rarely do any find their way into the inbox. _________________ Football Rumours | Gloog |

I guess you are right: I don't think I'll ever get so much spam (30 - 50 spam emails per day?!) and in any case there are always Gmail's spam filters to take care of such problems.

3 Gmail accounts? Lucky you! I now begin to think that it is perhaps because we all love Gmail so much that we want more accounts... And I think it is a good thing that there is my full name in the URL address, I like it, it is a gift!

im a little confused.
For example, say my google gmail id is lovedone@gmail.com
And i create a few pages.
Why is it that lovedone.googlepages.com and loved.one.googlepages.com , lov.edone.googlepages.com , l.ovedone.googlepages.com? etc... are the same pages account?
Try it with your pages!
or if you have a dot in your username, eg name.name.googlepages.com, try it with namename.googlepages.com
It seems to work for some reason? does this mean no one else uses
that form of Google ID, becuase it says these forms of Google ID's are
unavailable meaning they have been taken?
Wierd! _________________

That is interesting.
I just tried going to my page, and then putting a 'dot' in my name (mon.dine) in the address bar, and hitting 'Enter'.
It did go and display the same page. The only difference I noticed was that the pagerank display I have on the page went from 5 to zero.
It makes one wonder what would happen if someone else created an account with your same user name,
but with a period included somewhere you don't have one. _________________

Hi, interesting indeed but here's the message I received after having put a dot between my name and my surname:
The page you have requested could not be found. (404)
So, it seems OK...
But since I haven't published anything yet mine is a different case perhaps.

Well, yes. If you managed to 'find' a page you hadn't published, yet,
I'd have to say that would be truly odd. _________________

I don't think my spam emails are from page creater.
It's incredible the number of 'Paypal Account Update' ones I receive. I use POP3 and I use plain text, so I can see the dodgy links, but I can see why some people fall victim. _________________ Football Rumours | Gloog |
