Hi everyone,
I was thinking about the best possible way to protect my data indexed by GDS: I tried to encrypt index and data files some minutes ago but I received the message "Encryption/decryption failed". I lock search but is this enough? Is there an easy and effective way to protect my personal data just in case a cracker gets in or (due to hardware failure) I would have to handover my notebook to a technician? I need your help!
Thanks in advance.

To encrypt your Google Desktop Search index, you first need to go to Google Desktop's Preferences page. Below, you see "Encrypt Index". Just check the box there, and save your preferences. You're done.
Oh, and it's hackers, not crackers. _________________

Thanks for your reply but that's exactly what I did: I went to Google Desktop's Preferences and checked the box in order to encrypt index and data files. As far as I know the term cracker is used to clearly define someone who malicioucly attacks computers -not all hackers are crackers. Just googled (define: cracker) and confirmed it.

| I think I received the message "Encryption/decryption failed" because I have XP Home, not Professional. What do you think? |

I have the identical problem. I am running Windows XP Pro, so I don't think the version of Windows is the problem. I now want to turn on encryption and don't seem to be able to! _________________ Đ3 |
