I'm working to an extension for my school's website (not sure will publish it though find it interesting).. It would have to be something wiki-alike, containing lessions and.. here comes the important thing.. possibly necessary books. (the one you *must* read).. Is publishing a book (or at least more important parts of it) which is by the way freely available in the school's library copyright infringement? Worth a mention that only the school's students would have access to it...
/edit: you know, I'm not talking about Harry Potter & co, but classics like Romeo & Julie and so on

In theory, you should seek the publishers' permission for any copyrighted material that you use.
They probably have policies in place for educational use.
If it isn't accessable to the general public, it may not become an issue.
But you should always acknowledge the ownership when using any work.
State clearly who the copyright owner is. _________________

As a student I cannot contact several publishers around the world just to get permission for a school's studentsite..
There are a few published in the sixties or seventies.. maybe the copyright holder isn't yet alive..
What do you think where should I go, what should I do?
Do manual (student book) publishers let e-publishing of their material? _________________ "Circles have no end!"

The author often doesn.t matter. Almost any 'modern' book will have someone that holds the publishing rights.
It probably wouldn't take all that much research, using a computer, and ...some sort of search engine. _________________

Check the books and note the publishing companies. Do a web search for the web sites, or other information. Lots of these publishing companies, especially the big ones have websites. Sometimes, the web sites may have some contact information for the editors and such, and you can send a letter. Sometimes, there may even be a form, or a person whose sole duty would be to deal with your specific type of query. _________________ Help Make The World A Better Place For All!

If it's only accessible by pupils, how is a publishing company going to find out you put it online. _________________ Football Rumours | Gloog |

It's one way, in the modern world, to avoid doing your homework: by having the site taken down.
Beats telling the teacher that your dog ate it. _________________
