Okay, now I have seen this question asked several times, but I am totally unsure if the answer is what I am looking for. I want to put a blog on my page... not a link to another blog site. What software should I use?

you should set up WordPress in /blog/ and link to it. Or you want the blog content inside the div on the first page? Ask a WP specialist. But you can't do that with WP without setting up a whole blog.
