Google is providing us with some amazing ways to organize our data, but one that is missing is a Google powered Forum service. I sure hope Google is working on this. I got to thinking about it today. I was emailing back and forth between a ton of friends and the thread got insanely huge and became unmanagable in Gmail.
That's where a Google powered Forum would be sweet. All my friends could form our own personal community online. We could moderate it and make it our own personal place on the net. Then we would have threads of conversation, but it wouldn't be how it is in Gmail where each reply includes the contents of the previous message.

Nothing like Google Groups at all. It's not instantaneous like a real forum is.
Unless there is something I am missing about Google Groups. Its just a newsgroup handling service from everything I can tell.

I never realized you could create your own group in Google Groups. Maybe this is what I want after all.

| OK, it is close to what I want, but something more powerful would be cooler. It gets the job done though. Thanks for the advice. |

Yes, Google Groups as an entity is a peculiar beast.
Some of the groups are actually 'Google Groups';
that is, they are
created through Google (as you can create your own).
The other part of the puzzle is that some years ago they just started
slapping the title on their archives of Usenet Newsgroups,
and providing an interface to read and reply to them.
This was met with dismay and sometimes anger by some Usenet purists.
Some of these groups are unmoderated, and brimming with spammers, trolls,
foul-mouthed kiddies and other hideous creatures.
