Mr Irwin, 44, was killed by a stingray barb to the chest while he was filming an underwater documentary in Queensland's Great Barrier Reef.

Mr Irwin was known for his television show The Crocodile Hunter and his work with native Australian wildlife.

Police in Queensland confirmed the naturalist's death and said his family had been notified. Mr Irwin was married with two young children.

"It is believed that Mr Irwin collapsed after being stung by a stingray at Batt Reef off Port Douglas at about 11:00 am (0100 GMT)," a police statement quoted by AFP news agency said.

"His crew called for medical treatment and the Queensland medical helicopter responded, however Mr Irwin had died."

hi friends,

well its indeed very sad that a great personality like steve irwin passed away.

bad luck for him and his family.

i feel especially sad because if i am not wrong he has small children.

how will they feel without their father.

but its his ill fate.

well he took too many risks in life which were actually not needed,why just for publicity????

anyway we should all respect the great so called crocodile hunter who passed away

but he will always be remembered by many people around the world.

Truly a depressing and dissapointing news.But indeed to loose the great Crocodile hunter is nothing but ill fate.

The major thing is that Steve is father of two and to mature in the absence of their dad is something

unimaginable,but I think Steve's death was an unexpected one as no homan would have omagined that he

would die due to a collision with a poisonous barb.Anyway Steve deserted us doing his favourite work

in other words shooting with animals.Truly I think all of us regard this great human as the greatest croc and

animal hunter and nature lover ever.
