Google Rocks

I don't think google has "POWER" but I think they just offer ease of use and simplicity that is why everyone uses it so much. If they came out with a Google Instant Messenger I would jump at the oppurtunity to get one. I mean it is google we are talking about. They would have some super feature that no one else has. hehe.

GIM would be cool, it may take a while for people to start using it as their base instant messenger.
I use all three but i use AIM the most (AOL, hah)
Yahoo is a smaller list, mostly local (well where locals till i moved 30+ miles away)
and MSN....MSN is just a mess.

GIM would be awesome and i would jump on it right away.

You are right. MSN is just a mess and once GIM comes out MSN will come up with a quick copy of it becuase Microsoft steals everything. Those (obscene word). hehe I don't want to get in trouble so I just put in that.

if gmail does develop a new im program, it would need to be compatible with msn and yahoo. that means you could talk to ppl hu r using msn and yahoo with the gmail im. this would increase the popularity i believe of it. if this is not done, it would become very difficult to get ppl to convert to a new im program.
i have said in previous posts that if you do not make something a lot better than something ppl r already using they will not convert. there4 google needs to make sure there are huge advantages of using their im over msn and yahoo to get them to change over to their im program

Tokkolo/Snake, please delete either one of dude66's posts.
Alright now, I don't think Google should have a Messenger. Even though the majority of the users here crave one, I don't think it would be very successful. MSN has already surpassed AIM as the mostly used IM software. Google IM would just cause a mess. Non-google fans won't welcome it with open hands, and most people won't switch over to GIM just because one or a few of their friends use it. I don't see much hope for a Google browser, nor an instant messenger. Most of us are thinking about ourselves, how cool we think it would be, but we're not thinking in the broader sense. The majority voted "ofcourse" because they are biased google-fans. But you guys have to understand that all people are not exactly google fans, and would not care much about "that new IM software".
If it does get released, I don't know, maybe like Mayur said, it might have innovate features which will attract users away from the more established IM programs like MSN Messenger(I don't know why you guys hate it), AIM(Maybe people like it's simplicity? I personally hate it and think it looks lame), YIM, etc.

Don't think this would be a good idea. I use already Yahoo, MSN, AIM, and ICQ. Most of them due to work. Different clients use different IM's. My firentds use MSN. So I do have the 4 of them downloaded. It's a pain. Besides, Google already has the toolbar, and gmail. Not to mention having a great search engine all all the other toys we love so much. My vote - No way, never, ever will I agree to that, or download it too!

I use Trillian for all of them. You can uninstall each individual client that you already have, then you just use your existing accounts or create new ones within . It will also notify you of incoming mail for each protocol/service. It runs in your system tray. (gmail included)
Another one is: Gaim An open source project that is constantly being improved and upgraded.

Trillian was a buggy nightmare for the longest time, but it is awesome now. I highly recommend taking a second look at it with all of its features, too many to list here.
