To be honest I'm not sure, but I'm thinking greater integration with writely, google spreadsheats and google calendar. If they develop more of an online office suite then that is likely to be integrated. Also as more standards are brought in to replace the old email protocol we should see them embrace that.

I too think integration of spreadsheets, writely, notebook, reader etc....one more thing is recently I have read over some article in wired.com which says he found some code related to voice chat in the source of gmail.....if it's true there may also be integration of voice chat file transfer etc....on the whole it's revolutionising web 2.0....but one problem is wid dat many modules gmail may become even more slower to load

I'm thinking an improvement would be having better signature support in the full version of GMail. At the moment they can only support a plain text signature with no image. Then, if  u want, have to change the formatting of the signature only in a new mail (a mission to do every time).

GMail does have adverts, they're just text and don't stand out that much.

I think it would be good if the Google Talk box in Gmail could use File Transfer

I'd really like to see IMAP support. Don't know if they are planning to integrate it. Also I'd like to do more with drag & drop, to get a more "desktop-like" feeling.

A feature that I'd find really useful myself, would be to have the "starred" conversations appear underneath your inbox, in a separate area. This way you can archive then (like to have my inbox clean) and still see the important things at the same time. Of course it would be nice if this feature could be disabled or enabled, according to the wished of the user.
