OK you want to change the color of the padding?

Why don't you just make a layer inside an other layer... a change the brackground of the back layer...

Code:
CSS:
layer1: background: #000;
layer2: margin: 5px; background: #fff;


HTML:
<layer1>
    <layer2 />
</layer1>


It is not the exact Syntax... Just a quick reference...
