I picked MSN since they got rid of the chat option.
I have a real dislike to the AIM and ICQ chats. It's okay to have private ones, but the public ones? Ugh, no way. Too many bots roaming around. _________________ I have Orkut, so if you need an invitation, don't hesitate to ask by giving me your First, Last Name, and your e-mail address.

for me it's miranda all the way !
open source im that allows you to use it on all IM networks .. AOL,ICQ,MSN,JABBER,YAHOO,IRC .. you name it...
plus it looks great after you customize it :

it has loads of plugins you could use for almost everything...
a truly amazing piece of software and extremely light on resources. |

| Trillian is the best for multiple messengers IMO. I recently went down to just msn messenger, so I got rid of trillian, but if I ever decided to put back another messenger I'd d/l trillian again. |

I agree, plus, it doesn't have the chatrooms anymore.
I don't know why I have something against them, but it just makes me mad to go into one. _________________ I have Orkut, so if you need an invitation, don't hesitate to ask by giving me your First, Last Name, and your e-mail address.

If they could get rid of those bots on AIM I wouldn't mind it so much. If AIM is so great to ppl then why do I catch them on MSN more (hence part of the reason I got rid of AIM). |

Well, I don't understand you Trillian-loving people. I just downloaded it for kicks but the sounds are really annoying, especially the IM received sounds! Well then, just turn the sounds function of, right? If I do, I have no way of knowing if the person I'm IMing has replied yet and I don't want to keep going back and checking or just having it on top and waiting for him/her to reply.
I am an AIM user, and I fully recommend that to using Trillian, esp if you're a heavy AIM user. Expressive abbreviations such as brb (not specifically that one, however) typed in capitals come back in trillian replaced by an emoticon. I was talking to my friend the other day and he said "LOL" to me and Trillian sent it back to me as an emoticon similar to this . This is only one of the issues that I find a tad annoying.
I suppose Trillian is the answer if you have a lot of different messenger accounts from different services but personally it just doesn't cut it for me . And yes, MSN Messenger is perhaps the most pretty and best-functioning messengers out there, but still lacks as much popularity as AIM. I haven't tried Yahoo!'s Messenger but it sounds excellent, as their email service is as well.
And what do you mean by bots? oh, like SmarterChild? |

You say you recomment Trillian, but then you go on to say how some of its features are annoying. A bit confusing...
I use AIM and Dead AIM, which isn't really a messenger in itself, just an add-on. It's a very useful tool, however. Many great features.
Also, BTW, for anyone who uses the newest version of AIM, and who is paranoid about spyware/adware, check your computer for WildTangent. This is installed with AIM, although it never tells you that it will do so. It's only used for playing games on AIM, which I never do, so I removed WT from my computer. AIM also installs a lot of other junk, which I find very annoying, but some patience can easily get rid of it. I did consider other messengers like Miranda and Trillian, but I still liked AIM the best, and with Dead AIM, it's a very powerful messenger. The only thing it lacks, is multi-messenger support (ability to talk to users on different IM clients), but since most, if not all of my friends use AIM, this didn't prove to be a big problem at all. |

Oops sorry, you misunderstood, let me clear it up for you. I had typed "I was a former AIM user" but decided against it and replaced it. The "that" in "and I fully recommend that" is AIM. I think it is somewhat easy to infer but still quite ambiguous. I recommend AIM to Trillian if you are a heavy AIM user. |
