Here is how to get a free Gmail invitation from the people at Google Community.
First off, you have to post on our forums regularly. You have to post on them enough to get 1850 points. You recieve points every time you post. The amount of points you recieve when you post is judged on a few different things.
Once you recieve 1850 points, you can go to the GC Shop and purchase a Gmail invitation with GC$.
If you have any questions or comments please email me.
after you purchase it see info on the GC$ system.
NOTE: The stock for gmail invites will be replenished when more gmail invites are given to us, or when some one donates, so please do NOT ask when it will be replenished.

Well, technically, it's free. 
That's why is a very good system. It's fair. Everyone has an equal chance of obtaining an invite, and for (almost) no charge! By adding to this online community, you get rewarded with "points", which you can then use to get yourself an item from the store.
The only improvement is getting more invites!  |

Please. Also, Intelliot, have you considered the idea of letting others contribute their invites to the shop for sale? I'm sure several others have invites to spare... And if they aren't greedy  then maybe more people would be able to get invites?

Umm, I have a quick question: how would one check how many GC$ they have currently? I'm extremely new to this forum, and you seem to be pros. Please help in any way you can. Thanks
Oh wait, after my initial post it seems like I am shown my GC$ balance. Apparently I can earn GC$ for each letter I enter? Can someone explain this to me better? It would be a great help. Thank you once again.
Oh yes, and I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to please donate enough GC$ for me to obtain a Gmail account invite... it would be such a great help! Please please please help me in this task. Thank you in advance for those who can help. |

Have a look at the GC Shop Inventory in this thread:

There you'll see that, although somebody donates you enough GC$ to buy a Gmail invitation, that will lead you nowhere: the stock is over.
And the problem is that Gmail is not giving new invitations and nobody knows when there will be more or if they are going to do it again in a near future...
So you'll have to be patient, as the thousands of people who want a Gmail account  |
