|
|
|
Bill Gates has made it known that Microsoft wishes to compete with Google for the search engine market. Microsoft's MSN search page will soon be replaced with a cleaner, more minimalist Google-like interface.
Microsoft is releasing a trial version of its very own search technology, breaking away from its dependence on Yahoo. Apparently, Microsoft has been working on the engine for a year, hoping to become a serious rival to both Google and Yahoo. The search technology will be up on Microsoft's MSN site by the end of the year, if all goes according to plan. Microsoft is slapping a $100 million price tag on the search site alone.
According to Nielsen/NetRatings, MSN is the most popular internet site for US users, with almost 100 million unique visits each month.
Personally, I have found the sneak peak at Microsoft's new search engine to be pathetic. Sure, it works, most results are returned and they are either identical to Google's or have the search terms in their domain names. It's not a very good way of judging relevancy.
The technology preview is available at techpreview.search.msn.com . |

i guess it will better than their old one, but look at all the people that use google, its gonna be hard to get all those people to use their new engine. I mean they might do better, but i still think in the long run, google will be far ahead, but meh thats just my opinion |

I just tried searching for "Gmail", and everything from Gmailswap to gmailmachine came up, but the link to Gmail itself wasn't even in the first page's 15 results...
It is a cleaner, faster interface though... just like the article says. Google-wannabe... I'll give it a few more spins in the next few days to test it out. I've just been too Google-minded the past few days to say anything optimistic about Yahoo! or MSN... hehe..! Gmail's got me hooked! _________________

It is a much cleaner and nicer interface. I like it a lot more. I have tested it out a little now and seem to like it a little, at least a little more than the old MSN search. And, something good, Google Community comes up #1 when using the search term google community.

hahaha...! yeah, it would've been much, much better if they at least came up with something that had a little originality. I mean, look at Gmail. before it came along, Google had ZERO market share in the free email sector. but Google got to know both its competitors and its future customers, which is how they were able to come up with something that will soon wipe both Yahoo! and MSN out... it didn't try to size up to the best. it wanted to become the best, and it did. _________________
