Gmail is a concept that forms the catalyst for people that value the interchange of knowledge with other like minded people.
Yahoo, MSN, Hotmail collect and market stats, nunber of eyeballs using their sites without regard to quality of the forum they provide.
Google has found the need to provide users with the transition from a search function to continuing subject matter dialogue seamlessly within a single umbrella knowm as Google.
It works for me!

Hy there Very Happy
It is true peoples, u dont need have an hotmail or msn account to use messenger, u just need have an .Netpassport, and u can use ur favorite e-mail for that.
If u dont know how to do that, send me a message with the e-mail adress u want use on ur msn messenger and i ll send u an invitation to my friend list on this e-mail and the only thing u ll need to do ll be register ur e-mail there.

really? wow...i've seen that done before but never quite understood how to do that Surprised if i want to do that, why should i send you a message and do all that other work? can't you just say how to do it here by yourself?

hmmmm...so what you're really saying is that you can use a msn/hotmail account and send an invitation to your msn/hotmail account's friend list to your non-msn account, and then after that, you just need to register your non-msn account email address with msn .netpassport?

i think i get it... Surprised

Create yourself a .net passport account in here:

Code:
http://www.passport.com/Consumer/default.asp?lc=3082

Then luego, start a new session in Messenger with that account (for example, wwwww @yahoo.com) as usual, just the same as if you were using a Hotmail email account...

lol...actually, i just think you're repeating it to earn GC$ for it, and then throw in the spite for free. you're not a smartass apparently because your post was derivative of another member's and branching off of that, you don't look smart if you repeat what someone else has said before...just proves that you can't think of something original to write so you copy someone else. Rolling Eyes ...haha, don't deny that i'm right. Smile

hey, massacre, don't take it too seriously Smile i was just joking around. i'm sure you want something from the GC Shop and therefore post. the GC Shop is a good incentive for members to be active and keep googlecommunity alive. even i am interested in acquiring several items from the GC Shop, as soon as they're available, that is. Razz

and besides, if you were being a smartass to me, then that's not really fair. Surprised i don't like being made fun of Rolling Eyes who does? but apparently my reply to your "smartass" comment has done its purpose of putting you in my spot Smile

While you are at it, donate some to me too. Just joking, (unless you really want to). I also got that email from Hotmail but didn't care about it because I have Gmail.

Well, Yahoo! is not waiting aside doing nothing: they bought Oddpost a few days ago. This is what Oddpost said to their subscribers:

Quote:
July 9th, 2004

Dear Oddpost subscriber,

After many a furtive glance, reflexive inhalation, tentative touch of finger to earlobe (with head cock) and other such coquetry, Oddpost is thrilled to declare that we’ve been acquired by Yahoo!. This is of course wonderful news for the fine folks here who have toiled away in relative obscurity for the past three years, but vicarious pleasure having its limits, let us immediately focus on the good that this means for you, our valued subscriber. To aid us in this utterly contrived task we once again trot out the ever-inquisitive Oddpost Everyperson, muse of our weblog, star of our FAQ and former boom operator on Masterpiece Theatre’s Anna Karenina:

What’s going to happen to my Oddpost.com account?
Oddpost.com will continue to operate with no interruption in service. However, from this day forward, we’ll be working on a new, advanced Yahoo! Mail product (one that, in press release terms, might be described as “a powerful combination of our award-winning web application technology with the world’s #1 Internet brand and email service”). When that new product is good and ready we’ll migrate accounts over to it. Until then, all Oddpost subscriptions will be extended, free of charge. After the migration, you’ll get an additional free year of premium Yahoo! Mail service including two gigs of storage, SpamGuard Plus, advanced virus protection and lots of other goodies.

When will this new service launch?
A release date has not yet been set.

Will I get to keep my Oddpost email address?
That’s the plan, but we haven’t worked out the exact details just yet.

So what you’re saying is that Oddpost is disappearing into the bowels of corporate America?
On the contrary: our technology will flourish like a palm tree and/or IT professional’s waistline in Silicon Valley. While the glory of Oddpost has, thus far, been witnessed by the eyes of an enlightened few, soon it will be savored by millions. We couldn’t be more excited.

I suffer from dependent personality disorder and the unfortunate target of my malady is your customer support staff. Will you continue to feed my disease?
Yes, we will continue to provide customer support for Oddpost accounts.

Are you accepting new subscribers at Oddpost.com?
No. We’re now entirely focused on providing excellent service to our existing customers and developing the new, advanced Yahoo! Mail product.

I will miss you. Hold me please.
There there. This is not an end, but a beginning. Now is the official start of Phase Two of our quest for world domination. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your patronage over the course of what was an incredibly rewarding and exciting Phase One.

Sincerely,
The Oddpost Team

Oddpost was reputed to work with an excellent technology, so Yahoo! wants to face the race started by Gmail...
