Rest assured, I am taking action.
Here's what I've come up with so far.
- Immediate banning of anyone who breaks any rule.
DO NOT ARGUE if you, or someone you know, is banned. Please understand that it is impossible to deal with all such requests. Kindly email me (at the address provided) if the banning was done in error.
- Increased flood interval to 30 seconds.
This will make a mass spamming take much longer and give us more time to respond. Also, I hope people will take this opportunity to THINK before they post 
- Rejection of requests to become a moderator.
Moderators will be chosen by existing moderators and myself. We will invite members to be moderators; they will no longer nominate themselves.
- Disabled image posting.
You will now have to click a link to an image in order to view it. This will not only protect members from obscene images, but also give members more privacy (images can log the viewer's IP).
- Admin approval required for all new accounts.
This is intended to be a temporary measure until the spammers grow up and get a life.
Is this enough? What further actions can I take?

Yo man this really sucks...
Did you try .htaccess IP Banning?
deny from 000.000.000.000
deny from 000.000.000.001
deny from 000.000.000.002
...
Try that and it won't let that IP near here... Also ban all free proxys you can find

| The individual who was responsible for all of this IMed me on AIM. I inquired them, "You aren't ever going to do this again, will you?" And they responded, "No. Don't worry about it. We've had revenge. We had it. It's over." Given that they are not going to do it again, I don't see the use in revealing their identity. I just thought you should know that all this needless, for they assure me that their "payback" is complete. ^_^ |

sometimes spammers can be real annoying, these people need to grow up, they are just trying to be annoying, and so far they've accomplished that, lets see if we can stop them from continuing this

| Excuse me, you're not talking about spammers, but trolls. That's their right definition: they are trolls. So do not try to understand what they do and why they do it, it's not possible. And, as a matter of fact, in "real life" they act just the same. So then you can find an explanation of why our world goes this bad way... |

I agree that there do need to be protective measures put in place to keep the nasty trolls (wow, long time that I've used 'troll' to describe something other than Internet Explorer) at bay.
