You should ghost your hard drive... It's the best way to get a 100% copy of your hard drive. I can create and upload a ghost boot cd that will allow you to do a 1 for 1 hard drive copy if you'd like. Just let me know and I'll get on it.. I had one before I'm sure I can find it and if not I'll just create another one.
A ghost boots into the computer without accessing any files on the hard drive. That way none of the files are locked or in use and you can successfully clone the drive.
