The only 'gadget' an adsl connection needs is an ADSL splitter that splits the phone signal from the adsl signal, as it goes over the same line. So unless it's a dedicated adsl line, you will need a splitter.

However, every dsl provider should provide this by default to you when they deliver the dsl connection. I worked for one myself in the past, and can confirm it's normal practice.
