That depends in which country you want to host your web site.
If you put your web site on a server in China and then try opening it from USA, your request will take longer ... to fly around the world. Do you get my idea?

So if major part of your customers will come from USA, then you should look for USA based hosting providers.

I can't tell you which providers to choose, but I can tell you which NOT to:
godaddy.com - they have good hosting service with .htacess support, but there is one thing that pisses me off - when you want to login your web account, you need to go to their web site, enter your login, then open web hosting manager, then open another and another and then your are suddenly in MySQL !!! Wow, that was what, 5-6 steps? Really pitching......I might get rid of them too, thanks for the topic!!!
