Yup,
Meta Keywords were abused by way too many people and are not taken into consideration on scoring of a page with google. However, your meta description is still deemed as important. The meta description is pretty much a brief main summary in what your page is all about.
If you have a large site, I would advice being specific into what exactly your page is all about rather than being broad like alot of sites that ive seen out there that fail.
Your're home page should weigh heavily on the terms on what your site is all about. I usually go for about 3 main phrases on the home page if I have a huge site to deal with. Think of optimizing a site as compared to making a outline for a long essay. English classes in a way helped me organize my terminologies in a way that Google seems to enjoy.
