Google Community - View Single Post - a site with multiple domain names or a company with multiple sites. whats ur opinion?

hi everyone!
it is said that if a site has more than one domain, it is bad for SEO. beside having the traffic getting distributed, i heard somewhere that google doesnt like this. is it true? and if so, can having multiple domains for same company but having different contents within each domains avoid the google's dislike?
