Actually, that's why I uninstalled Google Desktop. I heard that it streams all the non-trivial files (i.e. documents but not OS files and stuff) to the internet. And, when I uninstalled, it gave a list of options of why you did it, and amongst them, there was a "I'm concerned about privacy" option, so I'm guessing that claim is not too far from the truth.
