Yes, Colin is the kid with the camera. I don't advise you just to watch the movies. They may be to a help for you, but they don't explain everything in great detail, and some things are changed, and/or did not happen, like that shrunken head in the Night Bus, it wasn't ever in the book at all. It was just added because the director wanted it to have a Spanish tradition to it.
J.K. Rowling will be publishing an encyclopedia after the 8th book, which will have all her edits, and info that we never found out during the series. This will help us figure out all the questions we've ever asked ourselves about the series.
