i personally prefer php to any other web programming/scripting language. and .net by itself is not a language but a framework which can be used to program in asp.net or vb.net or c# or many other languages.
the fight between microsoft technologies and open source technologies is as old as my dog, and you can find a lot of good debates (or fights) between both the communities if you google for it.
so i don't want to start off another one here by giving my opinion on the matter. i prefer php to .net. period.
