Maybe next time you post you don't make the assumption (When will the fix be here?) that the problem has to be on Google's end and not your own. Tends to cut down on condescending responses. I deal with people every day that ALWAYS assume that the issue has to be somewhere other than on their end.
Your computer is older, and while it may meet your needs it needs care and attention. How many times have you done a clean install of the OS? If never that is a huge problem with a Win2K machine. How often do you defrag? If IE hung on it as well that would lead me to believe that your system is simply not running as well as it could be.
