How is it that Gmail won't share the same fate as Hotmail? I mean if they make it public (which it will because there is already stock for it), then technically it's free to anyone who wants to make an accout. So whos to stop somebody from making 10 accounts and spamming with 9 of them? Unless they make some sort of a requirement that they can randomly send emails to the account to "renew the subscription" (bad choice of words, i know, but you get what I'm saying). This way if a user is only using his account for signing up at sites and doesn't want his real one spammed, then he would have to check it periodically to renew his account. That's the only possible way they are going to keep gmail clean. Otherwise it will be another yahoo or hotmail and you won't be able to sign up for nothin' with the account because no one will know if it's real or just a "fake" address...
