I don't know if this applies to you or not, but I know that some people have had problems due to using the wrong 'view'.
When you
do get logged in, try changing the one you're using at the bottom of the page where it says:
Code:
Gmail view: standard | basic HTML
Might be worth a try.
Also, you may want to consider going into the options and enabling POP3 access. Perhaps you'd have better luck accessing it with a 'regular' email client.
