Fact #6: The correct plural of virus is viruses, since virus comes from Latin, where it means 'poison' or 'venom'. In Latin, only countable nouns pluralize, very rarely do uncountable nouns exhibit this quality(some do, under special circumstances). There was no plural for virus in latin. Viri or virii as the plural of virus came from a confusion of Latin plurals, like radius»radii. Other than that, viri is already the plural of vir in Latin, which means 'man' or 'hero'.
