GroundPounderUSMC, the fact that it's a HP has nothing to do with it, those are fine machines.

Anyway...what Randy Johnston advices is very good, however he fails to mention that it is very hard to truely clean infected system out of all lefotwer trash. Probably less time consuming would be totally clean reinstall and the following advices about firewall and safe internet browser (other options, besides Firefox, include Seamonkey and Opera). Which doesn't mean it isn't worth to try - it's not just if after steps suggested by Randy there's still something wrong.
Also, it's good to use good antivirus software, and Norton isn't it. I'd suggest looking at AVG, Avast (yes, both free if you can believe it) or, especially recommended by me, NOD32. They don't consume computer resources much, and NOD32 is also better at detection.

You could also consider trying Linux...or remembering that under Windows pr0n sites are major source of infections (nevermind if you go there or not - you wouldn't say that on this forum probably anyway)
