I first read The Hobbit when I was 7, and I really enjoyed it. I came by a copy if it a few years back, and I've read it so much that it is worn and tattered.
My favorite thing about Tolkien is his imagery, meaning the way that he describes the scenery, and the like. I felt as I was travelling along with Thorin & Company as they trod along the rough, and sometimes beautiful terrain. I felt cold and waterlogged right along with Bilbo as he floated down the Forest River atop the barrel. Tolkien has a gift for drawing a reader into his story and making them a part of it.
