Google vrs. Search Engines

Im amazed on how one directory could get this big, and pretty much have control of everything. I was wondering if you put every search engine together to get close to the power of google. How much extra would google be ahead? Ive been dumb founded thinking about this.

Well, they do a lot of things, but I don't know about 'controlling everything'.
There are a lot of players, in a lot of different areas of competition, so there's no time for them to become complacent.
It wasn't that many years ago that Yahoo was pretty much everything people think of Google as being today. (When pop culture needed a reference for a big success on the Internet, that was it.)
They have to keep aggressively expanding their name and services, or there could always be the 'next guy' coming along.

Oh, and this (Google Talk) forum is for discussion of the Gtalk IM program, so let's move this to the Search Engine forum.
