Searching for file types - Help needed

Hi,

Can anyone tell me the best way of searching for a specific file type in Google - I need to download some sample files (smtp, binhex, rar, tnef, uue, lzh, arj, cab, cmp, rpm and tar) but am having real trouble using Google to find sites that have these type offiles available for download.

Tried using the filetype: operator butnever get a decent enough result.

If anyone knows of a site that hosts cleanfiles available for general download then even better.

Thanks
N

Well, that's rather a broad spectrum of files you're looking for,
with no real basis for categorization that I can see.

You'd probably be better off breaking up your search into individual filetypes, with simple parameters,
such as "free download rar", etc.

thanks for this mondine- I thought there could be another way especially using the filetype operator but when you are purposely looking for these files to downloadits a mission.

Reason for the varying file types is that i'm testing a web filtering tool and these are possible dangerous file types.

Interesting.
Perhaps, you could consider another approach, and create and host files yourself,
using an innocuous test 'virus' such as Eicar that was made for the purpose.

I think thats the way to go- I did test the virus aspect with Eicar thanks.

Iwas hoping that somewhere someone had a file archive alreadywith a selection of these files but I guess not - any idea why the filetype operator is not very good in Google - perhaps i'm not using it correctly??

**** filetype:cmp brings back nothing (*** being random sample filenames)
