Correct way to determine number of backlinks?

If I search for "link:adsoftheworld.com] without space I get 2K links. If I put "link: adsoftheworld.com] with a space — 116K.brbrWhy the difference? Which one is correct?br

I think when you put a space, it is no longer the "link" function in google. it is just searching for two terms.
