Are supplemental results a bad thing?
Hello guys and gals,
Forgive me for asking this but I'm a bit confused on the whole supplemental results thing. Are they a bad thing to have in your listings. I realise that they are not as good as clean, regular listings but do they really make that much of a difference. At the moment i have 14 pages of listings, 6 and a half of those are perfect, the rest are supplemental. I use OS Commerce for my site and have tried to follow all the tricks and tips on getting google listed right. It's early days for the siteas products are still being uploaded so not everything is correct, I know I have to keep working on the SEO side. What I have noticed is that even though I have search engine urls enabled, the listings that are supplemental contain a dynamic element in the url ?cpath=. My other listings do not. Has anybody any ideas as why this has happened. The site address is http:www.ink-uk.com. Cheers |

Supplemental results are for pages that are similar, and Google doesn't think merit their own place in the rankings. E.g. If you have product pages, they are probably all very similar. Also, if the URLs are similar, then pages can become supplemental results.

There is nothing particularly bad about supplemental results. Due to their position in SERPs they generate very little or no traffic and assuming that the supplemental URL no longer exists, the result may eventually disappear from the SERPs. Results from the supplemental index are shown only when there are very few matches from the main index.

Supplemental result pages are generally pages that Google has determined to be secondary to other more relevant pages that Google has indexed on your website. These results usually only show up in the search index after the normal results. |

br I don't think it is a serious issue, google faq itself states that the pages which appear on the supplemental listing, have appear on the main results page that means it not affecting the page rank, just fewer restrictions thats all. Try to get high quality links to get into main index, IMO. br |
