Google referrals suddenly stopped
Hi
Firstly, hello, I am new, and secondly, sorry if this is the wrong forum for this thread. Anyway, my site is 6 months old, and I have most of my pages listed on Google. But today traffic has suddenly ceased, and my site is now listed way down. I was receiving 2-300 visits a day over the last week or so. Is this a normal dip in visits? Part of the "sand box shake" or "dance" or is something likely to be wrong? I did change my sitemap.xml the other day - could that be a problem? I also added some new Affiliate ads (all in keeping with the theme of the site) - can these make a difference? I really am hoping it is just a glitch. The more hits I get, the more I want to improve my site. But if traffic stops, it suddenly seems all is lost! Catch 22 situation I guess. If it helps answer the query, then the site in question is set as my homepage. Cheers, Jon. Last edited by jonpaul; 12-21-2006 at 05:02 AM. |

I thought the site was doing OK for only 6 months old! Are you suggestion 200-300 visits a day is bad? I'll check out the tool - but I have heard as many bad reviews of SEO software as good ones. I'll look at improving my content more.
But my main question was - do other people see sudden massive drops in google hits? Is this common, and part of the Google dance? |

Just keep running your site as normal, Google will sort it self out eventually if your site is actually worth looking at. I have a site which is less than a year old and its position in Google's index fluctuates frequently but I have one that is older than a year and its position is much more stable (it still adds new content though). So basically as your site matures its position tends to be more constant. 200-300 visits a day is pretty good especially for a fledgling site.

I am one of those who felt the massive drop. I had about 2500 unique visitors daily and month ago they dropped down to 700 then 600 and so on. By now I have about 300 visitors and they are constantly going up. I have SEOed my site the best way I can, I have a sitemap submitted to Google and I realize that I have to be patient.
