Forums and Backlinking Signatures ...

Does having your website details as part of your signature in forum messages count as a credible backlink ?

Do search engines discount forum content ?

well mine count as backlinks... what i don't like is my post in forums sometimes make number #1 in SERP than my site.... cause i use my keyword as my sig.. and what do you mean by discount from forum content?

I mean, does Google, for example, not include backlinks from forums, as these could be considered as self-promoting and not as a backlink should be..... a promotion from someone else ?

It will count as backlinks , but as i know, it does not help your site on SERPs, cause of "nofollow" attribute. sometime using sig on forums heps or uses for "indexing" purposes.

its true that this might not a count as backlink.. but still helps for possible visitors.. "traffic"...

Not every forum uses nofollow, so in those cases you're good to go. They count, but I think Google would give higher credit to you for non-forum links. They still count though.
