change domain name but maintain ranking
new here.
i don't know if there is a post about this, but my very cursory search didn't find it. please point me if i missed it. so, i have a page that has some high search rankings for specific words. i am interested in moving the page to a different domain. how can i maintain the same rankings. for example, if i use a redirect page for some period of time, will the rankings eventually be passed on to the new page? (i.e., not the redirect page) And how long might this process take to transfer the rankings? |

301 can help and a good option to use. IMO. Maybe it depend, if you do a major changes, i dont think it will help your keywords to survive on SERPs. Sometime we need to do testing to proved things that we cant explain.

UPDATE:
so i experimented with it. with the redirect ... it took somewhere between 1 week and 2.5 weeks to switch over. i was out of town when it occured, but when i returned the usual google and yahoo searches both pointed to the new page. |

I was recently scammed out of my domain name and lost it. I now have a very similar domain name but it is now a .net instead of .com . My old site was bought out by a person who has no interest to do what i do (professional dog trainer) but still keeps similar content on his page to keep the page rankings high. Trying to sell the domain name because it comes up No.1 on "hunting dog trainers" google web search. I made him change the content but the site still comes up on the first page of google. My new site www.huntingdogtrainer.net is all the same except for the .net . But the same web search "hunting dog trainers" yields no results on the first 15 pages. Can anyone help?
