I have noticed that in the Google Webmaster Tools that the number of links and indexed pages have dropped quite significantly since last week. As I have been investing in link building and adding more pages to the site I thought that it would be the opposite? Is there a particular reason for this - if anyone can shed any light on the matter I would be most grateful. Thanks

Yes i think.. also in other SEs especially MSN...

It's a good question!

It may happen because Google picked up some pages for crawling and some pages will appear again in search after day or two, some may never come back as they tend to go to supplemental index

If you have a page with title like: "mysite.com - something about me", try entering full title in google search, it will probably return you supplemental result. If it does, then it explains why you have a drop in your sitemap!

try to check it out for a week.. if you didn't do anything wrong, google will back your rankings and there are possibilities that it can be higher than the past..

I think google webmaster tool are still updating backlinks.

updates are still on going...i also observe this for some time now with my blog BLs, for a time it i got about 154, then to 151 and now down to 144...hopefully it'll come back soon...
