Broken links, '/', relative and absolute link giving me headache

hi everyone!!!
i dont know where to start. huh!!!!
today, i spent whole day messing up and then mending up my site.
actually, i am talking about broken links

in site1, weeks before, i found broken links cos of relative links. so, i mend them up. and everything was ok.
in site2, today i tried the same thing. and as a result, more and more broken links were shown by xenu.

the main issue deals with '/' here in my case.
till today, i thought '/' means root directory.
but then, today, i found it doing other works.

lets say, we have domain restaurant, where i have
restaurant.com/burger/cheese.php
restaurant.com/index.php
restaurant.com/bottom.php
so, in burger/cheese.php, i need bottom.php
so, i link like this. link="/bottom.php" in cheese.php(here i am thinking that '/' works like root. and in the previous site, it worked well too)
but then, xenu goes to find restaurant.com/burger/bottom.php
so, how should i solve the problem?? incase i want to refer to the root directory..

hi,
you still struggling with relative links, huh?
on a page:
www. restaurant.com/burger/cheese.php
including bottom.php looks like this:
<? include("../bottom.php") ?>
where "../" is one level down from /burger/ folder
