Back Links from other sites

Hi gurus,

When I do a search in google for links to my site using the link: feature, It only comes up with a few, but in reality over 200 sites are linking to mine. Are these links not being counted by google, or are they just being missed? My page rank doesn't seem to be suffering, it's a 4 and all other sites in my field are a 4 or lower - I'm in the top 50 results for my keyword.

Thanks for any advice!

And another thing, most of the links that show up are from my own site! That seems odd - most sites I google with the link: feature show only external links.

I have a similar problem.
Until a few days ago, my link report showed that I had over 500 inbound links.
Now, if I enter
'link:www.nightvisionstore.com', Google tells me that I have only 22 links
but if I enter
link(space):www.nightvisionstore.com
I have 337 links shown
and if I enter just my url name 'nightvisionstore', there are more than 500 references shown.
So far, there appears to be no adverse effects to this change - my page rank is still the same and my page is well located when I enter the key words 'night vision'.
Should I be worried?

No, you shouldn't be worried. It just has to do with the way Google searches. If it's being reported that you have 500+ links, then you have 500+ links.
It is best, when searching for sites with a link to your site, to simply enter your URL. Adding 'link:' to the beginning causes Google to look for web sites with the text "link: <insert url>" The 'link:' at the beginning is totally unnecessary.

Thank you for your prompt reply... This forum is very helpful...
Can you explain why the links shown by the 'link:' query changed from 500+ to 22 almost overnight?
My competition's link report didn't change.

when checking for backlinks, use Yahoo - it's much more reliable... Google hides your backlinks, but it knows they are there...

i also faced the same problem most of the links are from my own site. i think if we can make a list of web pages that link to us and give google bot a chance to crawl it ,that links also may be listed ..try it and tell me the results.
