Refresh

Okay, I've found out that visitors to my site have to press the refresh button to see latest updated pages (save first time visitors).
How do I make my updates show automatically for every visit please?

This is probably due to caching.
You could use the javascript function location.reload() or using a meta refresh.

Meta refresh is good, can easily be done but isn't it bad for SEO?

Meta refresh is bad in terms of SEO...Really bad...Instead of using meta refresh try redirecting your page...

Redirect?

Right, as you may have guessed I'm a 'noogle' on this SEO lark.
So it appears that redirecting the page is the way forward so as to not upset my optimisation. Can you give an 'idiots-guide' on how to redirect a page please?

Confused!

I've just had a search on Google for 'redirect web page' All my pages are .htm BTW

I found this:

HTML Redirection How do you redirect using html you ask? Here is how: DONT!
Over the past 4-6 years, use of meta tag refresh redirection has been abused for uses in relation to SPAM. The result of this and other scenarios of mis-uses of it, is that when using it, that page WILL be de-indexed from every search engine.
NOTE: This also applies to javascript redirection. Search engines can easily detect javascript and meta tag redirection, so just dont do it, use the 301 redirect.

What I'm after is, say I change a photo on my index page & upload it. I check the site & it's fine. Then other people visit & they still see the 'old' version & can only see the latest if they hit 'refresh' once my site is up. I do a 'weekly nature notes' page & again visitors do not see the update of that page unless they hit refresh (or are a first time visitor)

Sorry if I confused anyone, & hope this makes it clearer as to what I need.

This is referring to redirecting the page to another page, not refreshing the current one.

How does this improve your SEO?
When Google crawls your site it will use see the most up to date version, so for SEO you don't need any refreshing.
The fact that your users see an out of date version is because their browser will save a copy of the webpage, so that the next time they load it, it can just be brought out of cache, saving bandwidth and time.
Therefore, the problem is client-side and there is little you can do.

Thanks, Andrew. I have'nt a clue if it would improve SEO. I just saw that others suggested that 'meta refresh' etc is bad for it, so before realising what redirecting was, I assumed that was the way forward.........

I think that you have 'hit the nail on the head' though with this snag being client-side. Thanks again.
