Image searching does not provide any way to specify the language that you used for search criteria. This is a significant problem because there are a lot of terms that are written in the same way in different languages. For example, if I enter «camera» I am probably looking for a photo or videocamera in English language, but I am really looking for a room in Italian one. «main» means principal, the most important, in English, but hand in French. So, if I am looking for a specific object and I provide the name of that object in a specific language, I need a way to inform Google which language I used.
You may wish to know why I wish to provide the criteria in a non English language. For example, why «main» rather than «hand». The first reason is that Google often associate to an image non-English terms if the image is on a non-English site, and most sites in Internet are non-English based. So, the images of an hand that you get by specifying «hand» are not the same images that you find by specifying «main». The second reason is that many images are cultural oriented. Scottish castles are very different from French châteaus. Furthermore, if I enter Google in my browser, Google automatically moves me to Google because I am used to perform Italian searches. This is really annoying. I would like to have a way to disable redirection based on language. Microsoft is doing the same error by associating languages and keyboard layouts. It looks like in USA is difficult to understand that in Europe we are used to use at the same time several languages and to mix them. Most of us knows at least another language, often two, and understand a little bit a third one. Most European languages can use the same keyboard, we are used to move from a French site to a German one, purchase products in Spain on a Spanish site, look at product info on a English catalog, and so forth. I think that language oriented tools and features should be designed with the support of all users, worldwide, because we have needs that do not matches the functions that many English-based products and services provide us with. Thank you in advance for understanding. |
