Site Ranking Question from a Newbie
hi, i signed up for "adwords" last night for my site that i just launched a few weeks ago. after setting my budget, the estimated ranking for what i set was 9.7. also, i reset my daily budget to the recommended daily budget set by google. so my question is, if i'm doing everything (i think) i'm supposed to be doing, why does my campaign manager show my average ranking at 73? and at the same time, my forcasted ranking is still 9.7. in fact, i can't even see my ad in google at all. i saw it briefly last night, but it was about 6 pages back. if anyone could clue me in, i would appreciate it. thanks! i'm looking forward to frequenting this forum.

Re: Site Ranking Question from a Newbie
Try limiting your ads to certain areas, like a country or city. That might help
You can also use more particular keywords which others may not, which will bring up your ad to a better location. I have found I can get top placement with just 5 cents, if I use a focused phrase along with targeting a country or city ( even if you have to target many countries, you may consider making a few ads with each one focusing on a different country) Another approach is to turn on and off your ads so that they are displayed only on certain times. For example if your target audience is professionls, you can try turning your add between 9 AM to 6 PM and then refine based on the response. or if the audience is game players, you can turn on the ads for late evenings and weekends. Manually turning the ads on and off takes some effort, but it has given me better results and I don't break my budget. You may also want to post your website link in in your post so people can offer suggestions after looking at the site. HTH. You could also check other better ranking sites that are similar to yours to see what are their keywords. You can also try http://www.wordtracker.com/ and http://inventory.overture.com/d/sear...ry/suggestion/ Try combinations of your main keywords. like http://inventory.overture.com/d/sear...%20invitations and http://inventory.overture.com/d/sear...%20invitations Remember, you can have as many keywords phrases as you like. Longer and specialized the phrase, more likely it will cost you less and have a better placement. You can also target seasonal ads, like particular phrases for New Year party invitations or if you know common misspelling try them too. One thing I noticed on your site was the images have link but words don't. For example, birthday cake has a link but no keywords. In addition to link on the image, you might consider adding something like personalized invitations for your cocktail party. btw, your site is very nicely designed! I think it sets the party mood from home page itself. Cheers, BLD -------------- Signature Buy Linux DVD Sweet Fruits : DIY very Low cost web hosting |

btw, I am newbie myself.
I just realized you might get more/better suggestions if you post the question in Google AdWords & AdSense Forum on this website ( as your question is about adwords ). Cheers, BLD -------------- Signature Buy Linux DVD Sweet Fruits : DIY very Low cost web hosting |

when some one searches for something like party invitations on Google, and your ad is displayed on the right side. If it is clicked on the search result page, the click will be counted under search area. Google also displays the ads on websites which are part of their ad network, or on websites that subscribe to adsense. If an ad is clicked on the a website in their ad network, it is counted under content area. I think most people who search, dont check more then couple of search result pages links or ads. As you have mentioned your ads are 6 pages back, very few people probably check your ad there. so you are getting your links from content area! It will take some time as well as putting new and relevant content on your site so you start to appear higher in search results. you will also need to customize your ads for better phrases to have it displayed on page 1 or page 2 of the results. But remember to only use proper approach, don't be hasty and start using techniques which a search engine might not like, and may apply a penalty to your site or even get it banned from search results. I have read too many posts on the web about same. So it is better to be slow, and get help from forums to get better placement on search engines for your website as well as ads. Cheers, BLD |
