Same Google Serps, Huge Drop in Traffic

I had something very strange happen today.

I noticed a huge drop in traffic to two of my sites, both in related niches. This is a relatively competitive niche (there are sponsors above the Serps and "More Sponsored Links" on the side).

Looking at my Google Analytics account I saw a drop of in traffic from Google, one site dropped 86%, the other dropped 76%.

I immediately assumed that my rankings in Google had dropped, but when I checked my sites, they were still in the same position. The main site has been #1 for a couple of terms, and it is still number one today. I know Google likes my site because there are even site links there.

So now I'm completely baffled. How could I get a 80% drop in traffic from Google when my rankings are the same? It's not like people would suddenly stop searching for this thing, my traffic from Google has been fairly consistent for months.

Any ideas?

If I was in your shoes I won't be worried,
sometimes people that are looking for something, they just type a keyword and they click the first result which catch their eyes, for some surfers #1 position is bad, because they scroll down and the bottom position is the one they will click... or.. people that already have visited your site just go over to another one. No worries!

Don't worry dude, sometimes this things happen and it will come back soon. If you stay on the SERP for that competitive keyword then you should not worry and you're doing fine!
