Sub Folders, Subdomains or Redirect

Hi all,

I have a peculiar question. I am building a site with a few topics and I would like to segregate them for best search engine placement now my question is this what should I making it like.

xyz.com/topic1
xyz.com/topic2

or

topic1.xyz.com, topic2.xyz.com

or

should i redirect users who come to topic1.xyz.com to xyz.com/topic1

which one do you recommend.. and which one is better for search placement.

I would either do subdomain or subfolder, but surely not redirecting. And between those 2, I don't think there's a difference, though I would personally choose the subfolder. Anyway, that's your choice. Google won't have a problem with both of them.

mekingo is on a distinguished road
I recently read that excessive links (more than 4) between sites (subdomains) was considered "crosslinking" by G.. and would get all involved sites penalized. I had planned to have subdomains for Web Design, SEO, Graphic Design, etc. and "crosslink" them for obvious reasons. I don't see why this would be a problem since they are seperate specialties but are related to each other. Any ideas?
